Low-Pilot

December 3, 2024

Life on the bleeding edge of tech is exhausting. “Hey Farm guys, disrupt THIS!” We hear it all the time. Yes, we integrated Google Deep Mind into Q-SYS. Yes, our stuff is used for rocket launches. But honestly, we are just getting a little burnt. So, in order to help ourselves grow even more sedentary, we have developed our own version of intelligence. We have been working on a Small Language Model. It is similar to the many Large Language model AI products you know and love – like Chat GPT, Gemini and Co-Pilot – but our language model is very small. VERY small.

We call it “Low-Pilot”.

When we set about competing with the Sam Altman’s of the world, we thought that using Nvidia or Intel chip sets… just too darn expensive and complicated. And what exactly is a “Large Language Model”? What we found next will shock you.

First off, nobody knows what a “Large Language” is.

Are some languages just bigger than others? It was impossible to find out. How do you measure the size of a language? Bushels? Hectares? Fluid Ounces? It turns out that nobody has actually measured a language at all. There are no specifications of weight, height, width, and my favorite, heighth. How many words are there in the Canadian language? How big are THOSE words? Does it matter how many people speak Canadian? The information is either non-existent or maybe it is just top secret. Maybe we cannot handle the truth.

So, we went another way. It must not be the size of the language they are talking about. It must be the size of the model. We called a modeling agency. Shockingly, we were hung up on numerous times. Does nobody ask for specifications when shopping for models? We just wanted to know what sizes were available.

This left us no choice. We need to compete. We need to be in the game. It came down to Romeo Garcia and Dustin Gay. Both are very talented programmers, but who was going to be our Small Language Model? Who was going to bring us to the table with all the other language models. There was only one way to know for sure. We made them try on Farm swag. They blew through the hoodies in short order. Each was lost in even the women’s XS. But then, the Nike Polo. Romeo could not get his head through the collar of the women’s XS. The winner was Dustin.

I give you our Small Language Model, our Low-Pilot. Dustin Gay.
